Tips For Joining Affiliate Programs

Before you merrily join any affiliate program it pays to consider which affiliate programs are the best to join. These are the crucial program features that I consider necessary inclusions in any affiliate program.

  • The affiliate program must have a generous payment structure. For me, this means a high commission payment, which is a high percentage of the purchase price - nothing under a 25% commission.
  • Make sure the affiliate program you’re about to join has a professional looking site. You don’t want to send visitors to a site that looks unprofessional.
  • Make sure that the affiliate program has a comprehensive affiliate statistics page, which lists the number of click-throughs, the number of sales, and the amount you’ve earned to date. This should be broken down by month.
  • Make sure that these affiliate statistics are “real time”. This means statistics which are updated automatically and immediately. You do not want to find out today about a sale you made a week ago.
  • Ensure that the affiliate program provides you with a wide variety of text links, banners and graphics to put on your web page. Personally I prefer to use text links. However, certain other types of banners and graphics still work well.
  • Know how often you are going to be paid. If you’re tossing up between 2 programs and one pays monthly and the other pays quarterly, the one which pays monthly is a better arrangement. You don’t want to wait months before you get paid for your hard work.
  • An affiliate program, which offers a special monthly newsletter just for its affiliates is also great. Here, you’ll also get extra tips and information on techniques that are working well.
  • Ensure that the program provides top-level support for its affiliates. If theycannot answer your query immediately make sure they respond within 48 hours. Good, timely support is critical to your success.

Newsgroups, Forums - real or fake ?

" When you discuss anything with people in Net newsgroups, forums etc, remember that they may not be the person they portray in that area. Keep your personal information private. Take a while to check around about anyone that starts to ask questions not directly related to the subject. There have been many viruses and other nasties developed for delivery through chat rooms etc."

These are discussion lists that operate through a section of the Net called UseNet. It could be compared to communal noticeboards with notes (news, notions and nonsense, depending on the topic) from people that share a common interest in the subject that they post their views on in that particular
group.
Think of a subject and there will probably be several groups that focus on different aspects of it. You could actually spend almost all of every day just reading and responding to the traffic (yes, this counts in your bandwidth!)

They are immensely popular meeting places for good and otherwise.

They range from:
Simple forums where people register with a “nickname” and some basic personal information, then enter the chat room where everyone sees a message on their screens. Each person’s posts appear like entries in a film script:

Mickey: “How’s the weather where you are?”
Moovystar, “Cloudy. How is it where you are?”

Not very exciting?
There are chat rooms where each person is represented by a cartoon character. These are more visually interesting but require a bit more computer power. You select the cartoon character from the available range when you sign up to use the Chat Room. Remember, some people give information about themselves that is no more real than the cartoon character or nickname.

These are on-line discussion groups and they cover about the same range of subjects and sub-groups as the News Groups. As well as thousands of publicly accessible Forums, there are many that restrict access to people that demonstrate an active interest in the area that the Forum covers, or are prepared to pay a regular fee to exchange views and information with other Members of the Forum on the topic, which is often business related.

All these areas have their own rules and etiquette. Blatant advertising is frowned upon as well as disruptive behavior. But it’s common in many business related forums for people to put a small
“Sig” after their name at the end of their post. The sig may be about four lines and have a link to the poster’s business site or other information. Yes it’s similar to the “signatures” that many people use in the emails that they send.

A little knowledge - Email for Everyone

This is probably one of the most used (and useful) part of the Internet - and it's also the most abused!

Your Internet Service Provider will give you at least one email address to use for email as part of your account - most will allow you more than one.The ISP may specify that the name you use for your main email address is  the nickname that you use to connect to the ISP's service. If you use the nickname, "fred14", to connect to the ISP's system, then your main email address will probably be "fred14@yourISP.com"

You can use any name (if it is not already in use by someone else that has an account with the same ISP) for the other email addresses that your ISP lets you use.

You might use these other email addresses for email on particular topics that you send and receive:
1) Email address for your business
2) Email address for close friends and relatives
3) Email address related to a favourite hobby or activity

But you might want to give some of those addresses to other members of your family so they can keep their personal emails to themselves. You do not have to use all of the addresses that you are allotted.

The web browser program that you use probably has all that you need to send, receive, and sort your email messages. You need to become familiar with the email functions in your browser or
your separate email program if you use one.

Blog Business For Beginners

The blog, web log or web diary is not really new – people recorded their opinions and events in
their lives on web sites from the start of wide access to the Internet.

The dramatic increase in numbers and the much higher public profile of blogging is because of
the arrival of many new software programs and services that make it easy, even for inexperienced people without any sort of technical background, to do their own blog. Even the
most humble personal computer has enough power and storage space to produce and store our scribbles.

The blog is a close relative of the ordinary web site. Businesses of any size can only benefit from having their own blog and their own web site to communicate with their current customers and attract new ones.

The truth is that blogs and web sites are easy to produce and maintain. Many web designers
and Internet marketing consultants wrap their methods in jargon and hype but anyone that can;

√ interact with other people,
√ write a letter,
√ maintain records
√ Use a computer and surf the Internet
…. has the resources and ability to produce their own blog and make money with it!

Major Players are Active in the Blogging Landscape
A good indication of the potential is the active involvement of major Internet players. Just a couple of weeks before Blog Biz for Beginners’ was published, Google released a new tag (which its Search engine spiders would recognize) to help combat the blog-related problem of comment spam which I’ll tell you about later.

Google had the full cooperation of its biggest rivals, MSN and Yahoo, which shows that the big players are very supportive of the increasing use of Blogs.

There are other advantages for anyone that sets up a Blog, whether it’s business oriented or not. The popularity and ease of this type of communication helps people to improve the way that they express themselves; presenting their thoughts, opinions, experiences and advice in interesting and useful ways to their readers.

But the huge potential benefits for small and large businesses are little understood and ignored. I still hear people say that

× “it’s too expensive”,
× “the Internet is full of crooks” and
× “we haven’t got enough spare time!”.

The truth is that;
 - much of the software is free or very low cost,
-  the resources needed to set up and maintain one or more blogs is small.
-  blogs are less formal so you don’t need to be a professional writer
× your competitors may already be getting the benefits of having their own blog!
