End of 2000, IDC reports showed 2.07 million people had online in Malaysia.
As at March 2005, 37.9 percent of Malaysia's population is online, it had tripple in just five years time. Malaysia has over 8 million users online, about 1/3 of total population.
Malaysia has already grown many leading regional players that have flourished beyond its border. This is the time of year to look back at the year past and forward to the year ahead. Information plays a vital role in our life for pass, current and future decade. Right now we are observing increasing hype about the wonders delivered by newest information technologies in an era characterized by knowledge and concern of information as a critical resource for business activity. With the advent of new technologies, such as data mining, intranets, video conferencing, and web casting, several technology vendors are offering such solutions as panaceas for the business challenges of the new knowledge era.
Back to history, in year 1995 was considered the first Malaysia moved to Internet Era. The growth only began around 1996. According to International Data Corporation (IDC)Malaysia, the number is estimated to grow 3.91 millions in 2004. Tables 1 and 2 indicate the total number of registered domain names in Malaysia.
In year 2006, Google has indexed 4,610,000 Malaysia companies owned domain ID. This has shown the increases in the usage of internet and online facilities to enable businesses to gain vital profit throughout the past 10 years since Malaysia had put much of effort to adapt into this new era of E-market dominance.
